The company was founded by William and Harold Eves in 1937 as a way to finance their passion for racing motor cars and motor cycles in some of the world's classic races.

From the start, Eves’ involvement with racing enabled them to be well placed for involvement with the Motorsport and automotive industries. From the manufacture and design involvement of what are now some of the Classic British motor cycles, and manufacture of specialist equipment that helps create some of the world's most advanced road cars, Eves' pedigree for high precision automotive engineering is assured.

The RPV4x4 or Rural Pursuit Vehicle (4x4) to give its full title fits nicely into the Eves’ family of ingenious solutions. The RPV4x4 is an innovative vehicle designed out of a necessity for disabled and wheelchair bound people to gain access to off road areas otherwise inaccessible in conventional wheelchairs. It is ideal for those who need to gain access to farm land or livestock, for those who enjoy fishing, shooting, hunting, or for those who just want to get out and about to enjoy bird or nature watching.

The RPV4x4 was initially designed for a local man who needed a vehicle to enable him to continue his passion for hunting and fishing, but was excluded from this because of an accident which left him confined to a wheelchair. An extensive search to find a suitable vehicle with true off road capabilities was not successful so work started to create a purpose built, rugged, dependable, workhorse vehicle that would "give him his legs back". Work started and over a period of time various prototype RPV4x4's were constructed, tested, modified and improved. From this the RPV4x4 was born and has been a revolution to all who have needed to gain access to off road areas ever since.

Continuous improvement and development over the years has ensured that the RPV4x4 remains at the leading edge of innovation and progress. New technology in hydraulics and electrics have also enabled many additional featured to be included on the latest RPV4x4’s to ensure that vehicle and personal safety remain top priority.
